The local bee club’s monthly meeting was this week. The longest and liveliest discussion was about mite control and a number of members had interesting information about their success, timing and methods. As is usual, all beekeepers had different technique and used several different substances, powdered sugar and formic acid being the leading products. One beekeeper brought in a two bottle feeding supplement which claims to control mite through a Spring and Fall feeding supplement. This product was new to me and the club gave it away as a door prize. The winner is to report back the results.
Although everyone had their own mite control method, the need to control mites was universality accepted. From my perspective this is a shift in that before, there were some who felt that mite control of “let the strong hive survive” was workable. No one supported this as a feasible solution.
