February and 65F

Hope your hives are doing well. February can have a beekeeping day or two and the past Saturday was one. 65° F with clear sky and very little wind. The perfect time to add sugar candy and protein supplement. I have fed this combination in mid to late February for several years now and believe it helps get my bees a good bit stronger going into spring. I don’t see how it can hurt but I am careful to remove any that is still there before hive beetles can get a start.   I plan to add feeders and start light feeding in early March just before maple trees bloom – lots of pollen but not much nectar.

Days are noticeable longer with tree buds starting to swell. Looking forward to the first dandelion blooms.
